Install Data Science Experience Desktop

Requirement: Before you install DSX Desktop, ensure your system meets the system requirements.

You can install on Mac, Windows, or Linux:

Install DSX Desktop on Mac

To install DSX Desktop on Mac, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the DSX Desktop installation package from IBM Data Science Experience.

  2. Click the installation package and drag the IBM DSX Desktop app file to your Applications folder. Then double-click the IBM DSX Desktop app.

  3. Agree to the license and continue.

  4. In the Settings panel, select which tools to install. If you do not have a Docker for Mac already installed, you can select to have the Docker for Mac downloaded for you (remember to drag the Docker app file to the Applications folder). Click Continue to start the installation.

Troubleshooting tip: If the progress bar stalls indefinitely, then your Docker might be out-of-date. Upgrade to the latest docker and retry the installation.

You can now start DSX Desktop. If any features take long to load, restart DSX Desktop.

Install DSX Desktop on Windows

To install DSX Desktop on Windows, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the DSX Desktop installation package from IBM Data Science Experience.

  2. Run the installation package.

  3. Agree to the license and continue.

  4. If you do not have a Docker already installed, follow the instructions to install it and then rerun the DSX Desktop installation.

  5. In the Settings panel, select which tools to install. Click Continue to start the installation.

    The docker check and installation progress might look stalled for several minutes.

    Troubleshooting tip: If the progress bar stalls indefinitely, then your Docker might be out-of-date. Upgrade to the latest docker and retry the installation.

    Windows Docker Toolbox only: When the installation completes, DSX Desktop will appear as a running application in your VirtualBox Manager.

You can now start DSX Desktop. If any features take long to load, restart DSX Desktop.

Install DSX Desktop on Linux

To install DSX Desktop on Linux, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the DSX Desktop installation package from IBM Data Science Experience.

  2. Run the installation package.

  3. Agree to the license and continue.

  4. If you do not have a Docker already installed, follow the instructions to install it and then rerun the DSX Desktop installation.

  5. In the Settings panel, select which tools to install. Click Continue to start the installation.
